INCREDIBLY STRANGE RELIGION
SEPT. 12

FALL CHARM BRACELET takes a skeptical bow towards alt-religionart-religion, and fantasy cults with our annual Incredibly Strange Religion revival!! In tonight’s celebration of new, creative ritual imagination and performance, an apocalyptic 99 minutes of spiritual absurdity serves to support the all-too-rare return of the truly awesome Church of Magic, a tour de force performance-art initiative by ATA soulmate Ben Folstein!! After Cinema Studies under Gene Youngblood, the prodigiously talented Folstein dares to deliver his utterly INSANE appeal to celestial communion, with costumes, comic gestures, cosmic jokes, and a jubilant revival of his past music-video hits Zog, the First Feminist, Below Decks, Rock Too Big, and so much more! Opening this religious riot is a litany of jaw-dropping proposals by the now-legendary freak-belief sources Unarius, the Mormons (in Guatemala!), Christian Scientists, Scientologists, Church of Satan, etc. Sacred wine is free! $11

PSYCHEDELIC CINEMA
SEPT. 19

OC is truly honored to welcome back esteemed European critic, author, and curator KorneliaBoczkowska! This incendiary cinema visionary is in fact a huge fan of West Coast aesthetics, and she keeps breaking new discursive ground around those idiosyncratic sensibilities that are so dear to our native filmmaking themes and practices. Tonight she unveils the regional premiere of an absolutely reality-ripping line-up of films that address...the Psychedelic State-of-Mind!! Among the genius heads on exhibition are Jordan Belson, Melissa Faivre, Linda Scobie, Dominic Angerame, RichardTuohy/Diane Barrie, and the world debut of Toney Merritt's Vision Quest Remix. These makers--and a dozen more!--attempt to induce hallucinatory states thru mesmerizing kaleidoscopic forms, pulsating lights, vivid colors, otherworldly sounds, and atmospheric imagery. Local superstars Scobie, Merritt, and Angerame materialize in person to share their brain-wave secrets! PLUS Hippies Highon Alpha, Glen McKay's Playland visuals, and, yes, Daisy Ascencio's liquid lightshow, out of our gallery's much-revered overhead projector. $13

POST-COLONIAL SPECTRES
SEPT. 26

A true breakthrough and international discovery!! Honduran-American Adrian Quetzal Randall has cooked up a unprecedented Meso-American mystery play, an extremely sophisticated personal cine-essay that opens up areas of speculative history in an Adam Curtis-esque stream-of-consciousness  revelation on the military origins of Central American telecommunications and programming, tracing a psychedelic labyrinth across four continents. Part media archeology, part film diary, an endless montage of archival opticals support a long-form whispered confession about the electromagnetic magick that inflected the development of “modern” Honduran national sensibility. Our co-hit is the equally paranoid Tellurian Dream, a sublime 25-min excavation of the colonial mythos surrounding the infamous Malabar Radio Antenna, a mysterious site of etheric conspiracy now being resurrected as a tourist destination on the Indonesian island of Java. $10

INCREDIBLY STRANGE MUSIC
OCT.3

Here's an aggressive critical engagement with both old and new musical forms, led by legendary beatnik re-mixer 99 Hooker! His much-anticipated appearance here promises both wise and wise-guy versions of the comtempo sub-pop-music scene, as well as genius patter in situ. Avatar Pit, his real-time media delirium, is supported fore and aft by a raft of utterly anomalous musical singularities---spontaneous musique concrete sessions, damaged polka fragments, Troloman, Babalu, the Blob, the Residents, Eric Burden and the Animals, Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders...rockin hard! AND Liberace, Spike Jones, the Mirror Man, Louis Prima & Keely Smith, singing ostriches, and so many Other outsiders, now centerstage in 99's upside-down musical universe!! $12

SHAPESHIFTER's BENEFIT
OCT.10: MAGICK-GEO + PSYCHO-GEO

A colossal collab...of microcinemas!! Other Cinema takes a knee to Oakland's SHAPESHIFTERS project, with a party-hardy program of Bay Area magick! Anchoring the Psycho-Geo line-up is none Other than stage magician extraordinaire Michael Nguyen! This master's mind-blowing visual delights are then answered by very different versions of “reality”, local verite and archival lovelies bearing on our shared space and sensibility: Playland, Berkeley mudflats, DIY solar ovens, Bullitt production shorts, James Hong's cine-poems, sidewalk-busking DJ Beau Dayshus, and the Bay Area premiere of Bill Morrison's Sawyer Ave.
AND on sale: Not only Maya's charm bracelets, but also GILBERT's CRAFT BEER! $9-$99
